Trump Bought Fast Food For The Clemson Football Team’s White House Dinner Due To The Shutdown

President Donald Trump hosted the national champion Clemson football team at the White House on Monday, but he needed an unconventional solution to the issue of what to feed them.

The government has been shut down for more than three weeks now, and furloughs have affected the White House as well. The staff that normally handles catering for events is not working.

So, Trump decided to pay for the meal himself, ordering a variety of fast food favorites to serve his guests.

The White House explained the situation—with a shot at the Democrats in the process.

“The President wanted to host a fun event to celebrate the College Football National Champion Clemson Tigers,” a White House statement read. “Because the Democrats refuse to negotiate on border security, much of the residence staff at the White House is furloughed—so the President is personally paying for the event to be catered with some of everyone’s favorite fast foods.”

As it turns out, the decision to bring in food from Wendy’s, McDonalds and Burger King was a hit with the team. Apparently, there weren’t many leftovers—which Trump anticipated due to the “very large people that like eating.”

“POTUS predicted there would not be much left – appears to be accurate,” Reuters White House reporter Roberta Rampton wrote on Twitter.

Clemson is the only team to visit the White House twice during Trump’s presidency. They also visited just one week after winning the national championship by beating Alabama—an unusually quick timeline for a visit that often takes months to schedule.
