Tuesday, tensions flared in Caracas between newly elected President Juan Guaido supporters who clashed with pro-Maduro forces. Guaido, the U.S. backed leader called for a military uprising against Maduro and his socialist government. This conflict is a result of the same failed policies that democratic socialists such as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez support.
Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday evening and made a case for supporting the opposition of disputed Venezuelan Socialist President Nicolas Maduro while suggesting that Russia had installed nuclear missiles in the impoverished South American nation.
“Imagine if this regime that now is receiving a lot of international pressure survives, is it or is it not potentially a green light, an open door for the Russians and for the Chinese and for others to increase their activity against our national security interest right here in our hemisphere, “Diaz-Balart told Carlson.
Russia, China, and Iran reportedly have a presence in South America including Cuba who are alleged to have 20,000 troops and agents in the region according to the U.S. government. Trump issued a stern warning via Twitter of heavy sanctions and an embargo on the island of Cuba to ensure there was no interference on their behalf stopping the Venezuelan people from liberating themselves. The government believes that Cuba has been working in the region to prop up Maduro’s government.
“If Cuban Troops and Militia do not Immediately CEASE military and other operations for the purpose of causing death and destruction to the Constitution of Venezuela, a full and complete embargo, together with highest-level sanctions, will be placed on the island of Cuba. Hopefully, all Cuban soldiers will promptly and peacefully return to their island!” Trump said.
Carlson pressed the congressman on if he thought anti-American forces would invade the U.S.
“No. It’s kind of hard to see what you’re talking about. Are you suggesting they are going to invade?” Carlson questioned.
“The United States, the closest we ever came to nuclear war was because the Russians put missiles, right, nuclear missiles in Cuba,” Diaz-Balart said.
“Are you saying the Russians will put nuclear missiles in Venezuela?” Carlson asked.
“What I am suggesting is that they are already there,” Diaz-Balart said. He did not offer any evidence; however, Russia famously landed a nuclear-capable bomber in the country late last year and recently confirmed that it has military personnel in the country.
Diaz-Balart argued that the growing humanitarian-refugee crisis occurring in Venezuela and its impact on all of South America was reason enough to get involved. “The reason Venezuelans are leaving is because of that regime. It is the largest refugee crisis this hemisphere has ever seen,” Diaz-Balart said. According to the United Nations, 3 million Venezuelans have left their country because of the humanitarian crisis that developed under Maduro’s socialist ideologies.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made an appearance on Fox News’ Special Report Tuesday night and informed them that Nicolas Maduro was ready to leave the country until Russia convinced him to stay. “He was ready to go,” Pompeo said. “He was diverted by the Russians.” Pompeo then went on to say, “It’s time for Maduro to leave … and rebuild this once great economy.”
The Trump administration declared a quick and enthusiastic support Tuesday for the Venezuelan opposition effort to spark a military uprising against Maduro, hoping for a quick resolution to the political crisis that has occupied the South American nation. Meanwhile, many Democrats have been criticized for their lack of support for the Venezuelan people, instead insisting that the U.S. not get involved. This does not come as a surprise seeing as a number of Democrats are rooting for the same socialism here in the United States, that has brought Venezuela to its knees.
