As Pelosi Fumes Over New Border Wall Funding, Trump Promises 500 Miles Of New Construction

President Donald Trump infuriated Democrats when he announced on Wednesday that he believes the administration will complete 500 miles of border wall sometime after the 2020 presidential election, thanks to the Pentagon’s decision to funnel funds toward the project.

The DailyMail reported that multiple members of Congress have expressed their outrage over the military’s plan to avert money from multiple military projects to offer up the $3.6 million in additional funding.

“The wall is being built. It’s going up rapidly,” the president said in the Oval Office after a briefing on Hurricane Dorian according to the DailyMail.

“We think, by the end of next year, which will be sometime after the election actually, we think we are going to have close to 500 miles of wall which will be complete. That will be what we wanted to do, about 500 miles,” Trump added.

“That takes care of all the areas we wanted, including some of the marginal areas that we didn’t necessarily need but we could have gotten it done. We were looking to do about a 500 miles stretch. We should have it almost completed if not complete by the end of next year.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushed back against the Pentagon’s recently announced plan to move the $3.6 billion in military construction projects funding to build the United States border wall with Mexico, according to The DailyMail.

Pelosi, along with several other frustrated Democratic lawmakers, are accusing the White House of illegally overriding Congress’s authority over the allocation of the federal budget.

“The Administration’s irresponsible decision to transfer funds from appropriated U.S. military construction makes America less safe and dishonors the Constitution,” Pelosi said according to the DailyMail.

“The President is negating the Constitution’s most fundamental principle, the separation of powers, by assaulting our Congressional ‘power of the purse,’ and is undermining the oath of office we take to protect and defend the Constitution and the American people,” Pelosi said in her statement.
