Sen. Ted Cruz was a debate champion. To say he knows how to handle himself in an argument would be an understatement.
Alyssa Milano, on the other hand, isn’t. She’s an actress who has turned to activism since her career appears to be in the toilet. She’s espoused support for various liberal causes in recent years rather than, you know, acting.
Now, it seems the former Charmed star and Cruz will be getting together to hold a debate on guns.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and celebrity activist Alyssa Milano are planning to set up an in-person meeting in Washington to discuss guns in the wake of several deadly mass shootings — two of which took place in Cruz’s home state.
The exchange prompted a debate between the Texas senator and the activist actress over gun policy, with Milano responding on Monday with a request to “come in and meet with you on the gun issue and many other issues that include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
“I’d be happy to sit down & visit next week about uniting to stop gun violence & about the Constitution,” Cruz tweeted Tuesday.
I’d be happy to sit down & visit next week about uniting to stop gun violence & about the Constitution. If we can have a civil & positive conversation—in the spirit of 1 Peter 4:8 as you suggest—despite our political differences, that might help resolve the discord in our Nation. https://t.co/YfkB97wAA0

It is unclear if they have confirmed a date and time to meet. Cruz’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
However, Milano did reportedly get something scheduled with Cruz.
A lot of people are hoping the debate this via a livestream, mostly so they can watch the actress get schooled. Milano is a favorite liberal voice on Twitter, but her grasp of policy is tenuous at best. She typically talks in platitudes and emotion, something which doesn’t do very well in a debate.
Of course, Cruz’s comments suggest that it won’t really be a debate but instead a cordial conversation on the topic of guns. That’s probably for the best. People frown on clubbing baby seals and I don’t see where a debate with Milano, especially on gun rights, wouldn’t amount to much the same thing.
That said, I’m going to give Milano some respect for being willing to sit down and have a conversation or debate with Cruz. Of course, she’s convinced she can win a debate and that it won’t be a massacre, but I’m still going to give her props. Far too many people on the internet are willing to fling stuff from across the digital divide, but few are willing to say it to their face.
Granted, Milano is likely to be far more polite in person than she might be on Twitter or anywhere else on the internet, but that’s hardly unique to her by any stretch of the imagination.
The meeting is supposed to be sometime next week and my sincere hope is that we do get to view it and watch Cruz dismantle Milano’s arguments, such as they are, one by one. It’ll be interesting to see just what form those arguments will take and whether something like this creates any real change in the gun control debate. It’s unlikely that it will, but stranger things have happened.
