Top House Republicans Question If Nancy Pelosi ‘Should Stay In Her Job’

Top House Republicans, in a press conference after the White House released the Ukraine call transcript, blasted Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her stance on impeachment against President Donald Trump.

“I think at the end of the day, the speaker owes an apology to this nation, and I think it’s even in question whether she should stay in her job. We are done with this,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said.

On Sept. 24, Pelosi, who had been reluctant to favor impeachment, launched a formal inquiry, finally yielding to mounting pressure from fellow Democrats.

She accused the president of “betrayal of his oath of office,” betrayal of national security, and betrayal of the integrity of American elections based on an unknown whistleblower’s complaint about the president abusing his presidential powers and sought help from a foreign government to undermine his political opponent and help his own re-election.

After Pelosi’s announcement, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said her “much-publicized efforts to restrain her far-left conference have finally crumbled.”

On Sept. 25, the transcript of the call came to public, showing the contrast of the allegation. The House speaker still tried to resist, saying, “The president has tried to make lawlessness a virtue in America and now is exporting it abroad.”

Pelosi, who had lived through the impeachment of president Bill Clinton, and staved off calls to impeach George W. Bush, now came out in favor of another one.

“What Speaker Pelosi did yesterday really was the worst we’ve seen yet where she announced an impeachment inquiry without any evidence, without seeing a transcript of the phone call at issue, without seeing any details from the supposed whistleblower,” Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney said.

The vice president asserted that Democrats “can’t run against this President’s record…a record of accomplishment…The American people see through it!”
