Former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan tore into House Democrats during his testimony in front of the House Judiciary Immigration and Citizenship Subcomittee on Friday.
Homan sparred with Vice Chairwoman Pramila Jayapal during the hearing about border detention practices after she repeatedly tried to cut him off for continuing to speak after his allotted time had expired.
“Look, you want to know why there’s 50,000 people in detention? You want to know why there are 1 million illegal entries in the United States? You want to know why we have these issues? Because you have failed to secure the border. You guys failed to support this president to close the three loopholes we’ve asked for two years to close,” Homan stated before being informed by Jayapal that his time had ended.
The former acting ICE director continued talking until the congresswoman pounded her gavel and demanded that he “please respect the chair and the authority of the chair.”
“I’ve asked you politely to let me go beyond my time, and you let other people go on beyond their time. Not to Tom Homan; he don’t get to go beyond his time,” he added, before calling the hearing “a circus” over Jayapal’s condemnation of his continued remarks.
Homan went on, “I respect the chair’s authority. You work for me! I’m a taxpayer. I’m a taxpayer. You work for me.”
Jayapal repeatedly banged her gavel and said, “The witness will suspend.”
