President Donald Trump called for the arrest of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) for treason, for falsifying parts of Trump’s phone call with the president of Ukraine.
“Rep Adam Schiff illegally made up a FAKE & terrible statement, pretended it to be mine as the most important part of my call to the Ukrainian President, and read it aloud to Congress and the American people,” the president tweeted. “It bore NO relationship to what I said on the call. Arrest for Treason?”
The president also demanded to meet his whistleblower amid the false accusations revolving around his phone call with the Ukrainian president and house Democrats’ efforts for impeachment.
“Like every American, I deserve to meet my accuser, especially when this accuser, the so-called ‘Whistleblower,’ represented a perfect conversation with a foreign leader in a totally inaccurate and fraudulent way. Then Schiff made up what I actually said by lying to Congress,” President Trump tweeted.
“His lies were made in perhaps the most blatant and sinister manner ever in the great Chamber,” he said.
The series of tweets follow the released transcript of a phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which led to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) commencing a formal impeachment inquiry against the president last week, The Hill reports.
President Trump also said he wants Schiff to be “questioned at the highest level for Fraud & Treason,” holding that Schiff “made up what I actually said by lying to Congress.”
Schiff on Thursday admitted that he fabricated parts of the Ukraine phone call transcript when he delivered his opening statement at a much-watched TV hearing with the U.S. top intelligence officer, the Washington Times reports.
Schiff, Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, who claimed his reading to be “part in parody” only admitted doing so after being called out by Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio).
Turner, the acting Director of National Intelligence, noted that inaccuracies uttered to a large TV audience as Democrats plays the topic of impeachment on full volume.
“It’s not the conversation that was in the chairman’s opening statement,” Turner said. “And while the chairman was speaking I actually had someone text me, ‘is he just making this up? And yes, yes, he was because sometimes fiction is better than the actual words or the text.”
“But luckily, the American public are smart, and they have the transcript.” Turner added. “They’ve read the conversation. They know when someone is just making it up.”
Schiff was asked earlier this year by Republicans to resign, as he allegedly put out falsehoods about the Russia investigation, according to the Washington Times.
