With much of California now being affected by wildfires, President Trump has called on the Governor of the state, Gavin Newsom, to do more providing him with an ultimatum. Improve the way the state handles the wildfires, or risk losing any additional federal funding to help battle the wildfires.
President Trump is putting Gov. Newsom on the spot to hold him accountable for his ineffective handling of the forest fires.
The President put out a series of tweets on Sunday morning targeting the California Governor. Trump wrote that Newsom, a Democrat, has “done a terrible job of forest management.”
In his first significant mention of the California wildfires on Twitter since the Kincade Fire erupted in late October and has burned nearly 79,000 acres, Trump suggested the federal government will not be giving the state any additional funding to help battle the wildfires.
Trump started out by saying, “The Governor of California, @GavinNewsom, has done a terrible job of forest management. I told him from the first day we met that he must “clean” his forest floors regardless of what his bosses, the environmentalists, DEMAND of him.”
“Must also do burns and cut fire stoppers every year, as the fire’s rage & California burns, it is the same thing-and then he comes to the Federal Government for $$$ help.”
“No more. Get your act together Governor. You don’t see close to the level of burn in other states…But our teams are working well together in putting these massive, and many, fires out. Great firefighters!” President Trump continued.
Gov. Newsom gave a weak response by saying “You don’t believe in climate change. You are excused from this conversation.”
Newsom’s response however was vastly different from the tone he took just days before when thanking Trump for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved help in fighting two fires burning in Southern California.
Trump also provided a solution that Newsom could use to fix on what California should be doing to fight such fires.
“Open up the ridiculously closed water lanes coming down from the North. Don’t pour it out into the Pacific Ocean,” Trump tweeted. “Should be done immediately. California desperately needs water, and you can have it now!”
The Governor later took a more combative approach, no doubt feeling the heat brought on by Trump calling him out at this point.
“We’re successfully waging war against thousands of fires started across the state in the last few weeks due to extreme weather created by climate change while Trump is conducting a full on assault against the antidotes,” the governor in a statement obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
These fires come every year due to the local government’s negligence. Yet every year the leftists that occupy California seem absolutely stunned by the burning when it comes like clockwork.
California has been known to openly fight the Federal government for meddling in its affairs. If they’re unwilling to right the ship and cure their disastrous handling of the fires, they should be left alone to do so without the Federal aid.
