Rep. Maxine Waters said former neurosurgeon Ben Carson does not have the “intelligence” for his current position as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
Carson is known as the lead neurosurgeon of a 70-member surgical team that separated conjoined twins, Patrick and Benjamin Binder, who had been joined at the back of the head (craniopagus twins). Carson was appointed Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery of Johns Hopkins University:
As a surgeon, he specialized in traumatic brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors, achondroplasia, neurological and congenital disorders, craniosynostosis, epilepsy, and trigeminal neuralgia. He has said that his hand–eye coordination and three-dimensional reasoning made him a gifted surgeon
Waters said: “I sent him a letter, and he sent me a letter claiming that I had no manner, etc. I basically said to my staff, I really don’t have time to be bonded by somebody who does not know the difference between REO and OEO. This guy just doesn’t have the background, the capability, the intelligence to do the job. He does not know what he’s doing. He doesn’t care about this issue.”
