Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff claimed yet again on Sunday that the removal of President Donald Trump is “urgent” while making a ridiculous suggestion that the president will cheat in the election this year.
“The reality is, because what the president is threatening to do is cheat in the next election, you cannot wait months and years to be able to remove that threat from office,” Schiff said
Schiff also argued that the urgency was the reason why Democrats did not force witnesses to testify during the impeachment inquiry through court orders.
“We subpoenaed many of these witnesses and because of the president’s obstruction, they ignore those lawful subpoenas,” Schiff told ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
“If you argue that, well, the House needed to go through endless months or even years of litigation before bringing about an impeachment, you effectively nullify the impeachment clause.”
Pelosi for her part, certainly has not showed any signs of urgency over the last month as she stalled the transmission of the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Mitch McConnell has said that Pelsoi’s “one-woman blockade” of the impeachment process “produced absolutely nothing.”
Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee that was largely responsible for impeaching the president, was also named as an impeachment manager last week by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Although Schiff led one of the least fair trials in history in a haste effort to impeach the President by their pre-determined date, the congressman told “This Week” that when the Senate trial begins “[Democrats will] be fighting for a fair trial. As I mentioned before, that is really the foundation on which this all rests. If the Senate … prevails and there are no witnesses, it will be the first impeachment trial that goes to conclusion without witnesses.”
McConnell has reportedly created a “kill switch” for President Donald Trump’s upcoming Senate impeachment trial that would allow for the president’s legal team to either seek an immediate verdict or a dismissal of the case if the trial is descended by Democrats into another circus spectacle.
“I am familiar with the resolution as it stood a day or two ago,” Sen. Josh Hawley told Axios. “My understanding is that the resolution will give the president’s team the option to either move to judgment or to move to dismiss at a meaningful time…”
“Hawley added that in the most recent draft of the organizing resolution he saw there was an option for the president’s counsel to make a motion in multiple places, including at the beginning of the proceedings,” Axios reported.
“Hawley added that if the final resolution does not allow Trump’s lawyers the option to dismiss or move to judgment at a ‘meaningful point’ in the trial, he would be ‘very, very surprised,’ and might not vote for the organizing resolution.”
President Trump weighed in on Twitter: “Many believe that by the Senate giving credence to a trial based on the no evidence, no crime, read the transcripts, “no pressure” Impeachment Hoax, rather than an outright dismissal, it gives the partisan Democrat Witch Hunt credibility that it otherwise does not have. I agree!”
A source close to McConnell told Breitbart News: “My pal Cocaine Mitch is again proving his mettle when it comes to outmaneuvering leftist Democrats with this kill switch. If they even think about stepping out of line and being unfair in the slightest, it’s time to engage said kill switch and end this nonsense once and for all.”
Former Rep. Trey Gowdy said last week that he expects the trial to last approximately two weeks, adding, “God help us if it lasts six weeks.”
