After Democrat States Overextend Lockdown, AG Barr Jumps In

Fear of the virus compelled numerous states to issue lockdown orders. In some Democrat-run regions, their leaders went so far as to violate Americans’ Constitutional rights. AG Barr has already intervened once to defend the rights of Americans. Now, he might take it one step further.

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: the virus outbreak was some Democrats’ dream come true. They have tried to use this crisis—and the panic is produced—to push some of their most aggressive leftist goals.

We all know how Pelosi and congressional Democrats acted. They held up vital legislation aimed at saving jobs, to demand funding for bogus liberal projects. But at the state and local level, it got much worse.

Many question the legality of all of the lockdowns. How can anyone—mayor or governor—prevent free Americans from leaving their homes or running their businesses? But some liberals went beyond just these guidelines. Some banned the sale of firearms. Others threatened to shut down churches for good. Others forbade private citizens from visiting family or friends.

The Department of Justice has already gotten involved in a lawsuit between a church and Mississippi mayor. Now, it looks like a bigger plan might be brewing.

Barr said Tuesday that the federal government would be reviewing lawsuits filed against states over their coronavirus regulations to determine whether each is warranted or not. In certain cases, the Justice Department may file a brief supporting a lawsuit alleging that the state had violated someone’s rights unjustly while combatting the pathogen…

“We’re looking carefully at a number of these rules that are being put into place, and if we think one goes too far, we initially try to jawbone the governors into rolling them back or adjusting them. And if they’re not and people bring lawsuits, we file statement of interest and side with the plaintiffs,” the attorney general continued. [Source: Daily Wire]

There has already been plenty of criticism over the government’s insane approach to battling COVID-19. Instead of taking a more strategic approach—focusing on high-risk groups, our country punished everyone by forcing them to stay home. The result has been millions out of work, with countless ruined lives. The protests we are seeing now will only be the beginning—if states don’t act fast to reopen.

More and more data is pouring in, proving that the virus is far less dangerous than experts claimed a month ago. But you probably haven’t seen the reports. The media is refusing to cover any data that contradicts their hysteria. The one thing we know for sure is that many more Americans caught the disease than we originally thought and are now recovered and immune. Proving that the fatality rate is very low—and that lockdowns were pointless.

Not that you can expect governors (especially Democrat governors) to change their tune anytime soon. Liberals are natural-born dictators. They love pushing regular people around. These lockdowns hint at what they’d do during even normal circumstances.

They want to control where you go, where you can work, and what you can do on your own property. They want millions dependent on government-funded handouts. During the panic, they got what they wanted. Do you really think they’d give it up, even as cases drop?

Of course not. I expect it will take the power of the DOJ and White House to force Democrat states to open up. Lawsuits will only be the tip of the iceberg. The president might have to sign an executive order requiring states to reopen restaurants, schools, and other businesses. He might have to take even stronger measures to undo the damage these lockdowns have caused (like banning immigration—oh, he just did that).

The only saving grace out of all of this is that we’ve learned which leaders really can lead during a crisis—and which need to be kicked to the curb.
