Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was elected GOP Conference Chair on Friday by a secret-ballot vote of 134-46.
Stefanik wrote about her big victory:
“I’m very honored to have the support of my colleagues to serve as Conference Chair. House Republicans are united in our drive to fight for the American people to save our nation from the radical liberal agenda of Biden and Pelosi.”
“Americans are going through an energy, economic and border crisis because of the radical policies of Biden. House Republicans will keep putting forward policies focused on helping our economy and getting Americans back to work, reopening our schools, helping our energy independence, protecting our border, enhancing our national security, and guarding our Constitution.”
Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-NY) congratulated her on her victory, “Congratulations to our new Chairwoman of the House Conference!”
Stefanik’s win comes after Congresswoman Liz Cheney was removed this week as conference chair over worries about the unity of the party.
Most conservatives rejoiced at Cheney’s ouster. Congressman Madison Cawthorn posted online after her removal, “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye Liz Cheney.”
Republican Congressman Andy Harris (MD) said Cheney “has routinely found herself in the minority of the GOP on important issues and was a distraction, rather than being a unifying leader.”
