Ted Cruz and Elon Musk Share the Same Message: End Russian Oil for American

When Biden announced his “response” to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he said we would hit them with heavy sanctions. These “swift and severe” measures would put the strain on Russia, punishing them for their unprovoked attack on Ukraine. He also said that these sanctions would hurt us, for some reason.

Sorry, but since when did America really so much on Russian trade that a few sanctions would cause prices here to spike? What’s odd is that right after Biden announced new sanctions, the cost of gas skyrocketed (worse than ever) and hasn’t slowed down. This, even though Biden claims we are not banning Russian oil (explain how that works).

Many lawmakers are not satisfied with Biden’s sanctions. They want him to go further by banning Russian oil and gas. That would cause our energy prices to go through the roof. Republicans, sensibly, have a solution. It is shared by Elon Musk and top GOP Sen. Ted Cruz. Simply put, we need to drill more oil ourselves.

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz joined in agreement with Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s viral Twitter post that America needs to increase oil and gas output “immediately.”

Cruz took to Twitter on Saturday to support Musk’s statement, saying, “Couldn’t agree more! Unleash American energy NOW!”

Musk posted to Twitter on Friday to voice his support to increase domestic oil and gas drilling as the nation faces surging prices at the pump from the Biden administration’s policies and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately. Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures,” Musk tweeted.

“Obviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil & gas exports,” he added. [Source: Daily Wire]

It’s pretty serious when a man who sells electric cars is saying we need to pump more oil. But Musk understands that renewable energy just isn’t there yet. He might be happy to sell you a $100,000 EV, but the electricity you put into it has to come from somewhere. Right now, it’s from oil-burning power plants. And until we have solar panels that can do the job better, America needs oil.

Ted Cruz released a statement last Friday on his “Energy Freedom Act,” which would make the U.S. energy independent by “accelerating federal permitting for energy projects and pipelines, mandating new onshore and offshore oil and gas lease sales, approving pending LNG export licenses, and generally speeding up solar, wind, and geothermal development.” Sad we don’t have a law like this already, but with Biden in office, it is unlikely this bill will pass.

Pressure needs to come from lawmakers from both parties before anything will change. Right now, Democrats are just whining to Biden to ban Russian oil. They need to realize that a bill like the EFA will go much further than asking a senile old man to do the right thing. Even if Biden tried to veto it, with enough support in Congress, it will go through.
