A federal judge just rejected a liberal watchdog group's desperate attempt to block President Trump's $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund — the program designed to compensate Americans who were targeted by the Biden-era DOJ. U.S. District Judge Richard Leon denied the temporary restraining order request from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), and he wasn't exactly gentle about it.
Imagine being so committed to government abuse that you sue to stop the government from apologizing for it. That's where we are, folks.
CREW — which, despite the wholesome-sounding name, exists primarily to file lawsuits against Republicans — wanted Judge Leon to shut the whole thing down before a single claim was even processed. Not one dime has been paid out. The five-member commission that will review claims hasn't even been formed yet. But the left couldn't wait. They had to try to kill it in the crib.
Judge Leon, a George W. Bush appointee, wasn't having it. He told the plaintiffs' attorney, Nikhel Sus, "Don't play possum with this court." That's judge-speak for "I see what you're doing, and cut it out."
The fund was established in May 2026, and it's designed to make whole the people our own government went after — January 6 defendants who got the book thrown at them, parents who showed up at school board meetings and ended up on FBI watch lists, anyone who found themselves in the crosshairs of a weaponized bureaucracy. The $1.776 billion price tag is a nice patriotic touch. Somebody in the White House has a sense of humor.
Now here's where it gets interesting. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Congress during a June 2 hearing that the administration is "not moving forward with the fund, period." New York Democrat Rep. Grace Meng pressed him — "Not moving forward ever?" Blanche replied, "Correct." But as plaintiffs' attorney Sus pointed out, "On paper, the fund is still a legally operating entity." So the left is suing to block something the DOJ says it's not even doing, while the fund technically still exists. Washington, everybody.
CREW isn't the only group trying to torpedo the fund. Democracy Forward, another legal advocacy outfit, is also pushing to halt implementation. Meanwhile, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia issued a separate temporary block that expires Friday. And down in Florida, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams ordered Trump's attorneys to respond by Friday to what she called "grievous allegations."
So the left has multiple judges in multiple jurisdictions working multiple angles to stop compensation for people the government wrongly targeted. They're not even trying to argue the targeting didn't happen. They just don't want anyone to get made whole for it.
Think about that. The Biden DOJ weaponized federal law enforcement against ordinary Americans, and now the institutional left is fighting in court to make sure those Americans never see a penny of restitution. That tells you everything about their priorities.
Judge Leon's ruling is a significant win for the administration, even as the broader legal battle plays out across multiple courtrooms. The fund's future may still be uncertain — but one judge just told the opposition to sit down.
The weaponization of government is being un-weaponized. And they absolutely cannot stand it.
