A 26-year-old UK national named Olaolukitan Adon Abel — who had prior convictions for sexual battery, battery against a police officer, and assault with a deadly weapon — was granted full United States citizenship by the Biden administration in 2022. Last Sunday morning in DeKalb County, Georgia, he went on a shooting and stabbing spree that left two people dead, including a 40-year-old DHS Office of the Inspector General employee named Lauren Bullis, who was just walking her dog.
So the agency that was supposed to vet this guy? One of their own got murdered by him. You really can’t script irony that cruel.
Let’s talk about what “vetting” apparently meant during the Biden years. This man had a rap sheet that included sexually battering someone and assaulting a cop. These weren’t parking tickets. These weren’t misdemeanors that fell through the cracks. Sexual battery. Battery against a police officer. Assault with a deadly weapon. Any one of those should have been a giant red stop sign in front of the citizenship application. All three of them together should have gotten his file launched into the sun.
But no. The Biden immigration machine stamped APPROVED and moved on to the next one.
Abel didn’t just kill Lauren Bullis. He also shot and killed a woman in front of a Checkers restaurant and shot a homeless man multiple times outside the Cherokee Plaza shopping center. The homeless man is clinging to life in critical condition. This wasn’t a targeted hit — this was a rampage across multiple locations in DeKalb County on the morning of April 13th, apparently driven by nothing more than the violent impulses that his criminal record already told us he had.
He’s now facing two counts of murder, aggravated assault, and multiple weapons charges. Great. Wonderful. Justice will be served, they’ll tell us. But Lauren Bullis is still dead. She went out to walk her dog on a Sunday morning and she’s never coming home because some bureaucrat in a Biden-era immigration office looked at a file full of violent felonies and decided this guy deserved to be an American citizen.
We spent four years listening to Democrats tell us the border was “secure” and the immigration system was “working.” We were told that anyone who questioned the vetting process was a xenophobe. We were told that concerns about criminal aliens were “racist talking points.” Meanwhile, the Biden administration was literally handing passports to people with violent criminal histories and calling it compassion.
This is what their compassion looks like. A DHS employee — the very agency that was supposed to catch this — stabbed and shot while walking her dog in her own neighborhood.
Think about that for a second. Lauren Bullis worked for the DHS Inspector General’s office. Her entire job existed within the framework of government accountability and oversight. She was part of the system that’s supposed to make sure agencies like USCIS are doing their jobs properly. And the system she served failed so catastrophically that it got her killed.
The Biden administration processed citizenship applications like a fast food drive-through. They weren’t checking backgrounds — they were checking boxes. The goal was never to ensure that new citizens met any meaningful standard of character or safety. The goal was volume. Get the numbers up. Process as many as possible. If a few violent criminals slip through, well, that’s just the cost of doing business in Joe Biden’s America.
Except the “cost of doing business” this time was two dead bodies and a third person fighting for his life in a hospital.
We now have a president in Donald Trump who actually takes vetting seriously. The current administration has made it clear that criminal history matters, that background checks aren’t just a formality, and that the safety of American citizens comes before the political optics of processing numbers. But the damage from four years of Biden’s rubber-stamp immigration factory is already done. People like Abel are already here. They already have their citizenship papers. And apparently some of them are walking around DeKalb County, Georgia, with weapons.
Lauren Bullis deserved better. The woman outside the Checkers deserved better. The man fighting for his life at the hospital deserved better. We all deserved better than an immigration system that treated violent criminal records like minor inconveniences.
But hey — at least nobody called the Biden administration racist. That’s what really matters, right?
