California's AG Just Showed the Whole Country Why You Can't Trust Democrats With Ballots

### California Attorney General Rob Bonta just raced to court to file an emergency writ demanding that a sheriff stop counting ballots. The state’s top law enforcement officer went to a panel of judges and essentially begged them to prevent anyone from finding out whether 45,896 votes in a Newsom-backed election were real.

The court told him to pound sand. You love to see it.

Here’s the backstory. Last November, Governor Gavin Newsom rammed through Proposition 50 — a constitutional amendment that strips California’s independent redistricting commission of its power and hands congressional map-drawing to the Democrat-controlled legislature. The official name? The “Election Rigging Response Act.” No, seriously. They actually called it that. The measure lets Democrats gerrymander five House seats in their favor through the 2030 elections.

Prop 50 passed in a special election. But Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco — a Republican who also happens to be running for governor — started getting complaints from a citizens’ group that the numbers didn’t add up.

So Bianco pulled the handwritten intake logs from the Riverside County Registrar of Voters. According to those logs, 611,428 ballots were cast in Riverside County. The number certified to the Secretary of State? 657,322. That’s a gap of 45,896 votes that materialized from thin air.

Bianco got a warrant signed by a judge, seized approximately 650,000 ballots, and the court appointed a special master to oversee an independent recount. Everything by the book. Warrant. Judge. Special master. Transparency.

And that’s when Rob Bonta lost his mind.

First, a representative from Bonta’s office called Bianco directly and demanded he shut the investigation down. Then Bonta sent threatening letters on February 26th and March 4th ordering Bianco to cease and desist. When that didn’t work, Bonta ran to the 4th District Court of Appeal with an emergency writ to kill the whole thing.

Sheriff Bianco asked the obvious question: “Why in the world would Rob Bonta want that count stopped? Unless he was afraid of what that count would uncover.”

Bingo.

The three-judge panel didn’t even bother hearing the case on the merits. They just slapped it down and told Bonta to go refile in the proper Riverside County court — basically telling the state’s Attorney General that he doesn’t even know which courthouse to walk into. (That’s your “top law enforcement officer,” California. Terrific.)

Meanwhile, County Registrar Art Tinoco is claiming the real discrepancy is only 103 votes and that Bianco’s team misread “unprocessed data.” If that’s true — if there’s a perfectly innocent explanation — then what exactly is Bonta so desperate to hide? An audit would prove Tinoco right and make Bianco look like a fool. Bonta should be begging for the recount. Instead, he’s burning taxpayer money on emergency writs to stop it.

Funny how that works with Democrats and ballots, isn’t it? We saw the exact same movie in Arizona in 2021. When the Maricopa County audit was authorized, Democrats didn’t say, “Great, count them — it’ll prove we won fair and square.” They hired lawyers, filed injunctions, sent the DOJ after the auditors, and screamed “threat to democracy” for six straight months. Same playbook. Every single time someone wants to look at the ballots, Democrats have a complete meltdown.

Pop quiz: If your kid told you they got an A on their test, then threw a tantrum and hid the test when you asked to see it, would you believe them?

Here’s what makes this one different — and why Bonta’s panic is about a lot more than Riverside County.

Prop 50 gerrymandered five congressional seats to favor Democrats. Five seats. In a House of Representatives where the majority is measured in single digits. If this audit exposes a real discrepancy — even a fraction of those 45,896 mystery votes — it gives Republicans grounds to challenge the validity of Prop 50 itself. And if Prop 50 gets challenged, those five gerrymandered House seats revert to the maps drawn by the independent commission. Do the math on what that does to Nancy Pelosi’s napkin-scribbled plans for retaking the House.

That’s why Bonta isn’t acting like a guy who’s confident in the vote count. He’s acting like a guy who just found out someone’s about to open a closet he thought was locked forever.

But wait — it gets better. There are currently 1.35 million signatures sitting on the desks of county election officials across California for a voter ID initiative heading to the November 2026 ballot. They only needed 874,641. The SAVE Act passed the House in February and is sitting in the Senate. Election integrity is the hottest issue in the state right now. And right in the middle of all that, California’s own Attorney General just gave the voter ID campaign the greatest gift they could have asked for — a live, real-time demonstration of a Democrat official panicking at the mere thought of someone counting ballots.

Rob Bonta is doing more to sell California voters on voter ID than a hundred campaign ads ever could. Someone should send him a thank-you card.

Mark my words: Bianco’s audit is going to finish. The court already told Bonta to get lost. Even if he refiles in Riverside County, the judge who signed the original warrant isn’t going to suddenly reverse course because the AG threw a tantrum. And when those ballots are counted — every last one of them — we’re either going to find out the count was clean, or we’re going to find out why Bonta was so terrified of anyone looking.

Either way, Rob Bonta already told us everything we need to know. Innocent people don’t file emergency writs at midnight to stop someone from counting.
