Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) held her seventh fake hearing last week — seventh! — to demand that American taxpayers fork over “reparations” to illegal immigrants who got their feelings hurt when ICE agents arrested them for breaking the law. She also wants those ICE agents prosecuted. For doing their jobs.
Whoa, hold on — reparations? For people who snuck into the country illegally? Rep. Jayapal has been running this little theatrical production since last summer and nobody in her party has had the decency to pull the curtain down.
Let’s talk about what this actually was. This wasn’t a real congressional hearing. It was not official business of the Judiciary Committee. It was a Democrat press conference wearing a hearing costume, hosted by Jayapal under the hilariously melodramatic title “Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Attack on Children.”
She’s branded this thing like a Netflix crime docuseries. Seven installments so far, each one more unhinged than the last — “Trump’s Assault on Chicago,” “Trump’s Deadly Assault on Minnesota,” “Trump’s Detention Abuses.” All that’s missing is the brooding piano soundtrack and a true-crime narrator whispering over stock footage.
Here’s the money quote from the congresswoman, and we do mean “money” quote: “We are going to have to have some form of reparations for the kids and the families that have been traumatized through all of this.”
Reparations. For illegal immigrants. Who entered this country illegally. And got arrested for it.
We went from a debate about compensating descendants of American slaves — people whose ancestors were dragged here against their will — to cutting checks for people who chose to sneak across the border uninvited. The mental flexibility required to make that leap would snap a yoga instructor in half.
Jayapal didn’t bother mentioning how these reparations would be funded, by the way. Or who would qualify. Or how much we’re talking about. Why get bogged down in pesky logistics when you’ve got tears to shed on camera?
And shed them she did. “I still cannot believe that we are doing this to our own children,” Jayapal wept, referring to the children of foreign nationals who are in the country illegally as “our own.”
Last time we checked, “our own children” are American kids — including the ones killed by illegal aliens that Congresswoman Jayapal has never once held a shadow hearing about.
But the reparations demand wasn’t even the craziest part. Jayapal also wants ICE agents hauled before Congress and criminally prosecuted. Her exact words: “The people who have been inflicting this harm need to be prosecuted. They need to be brought before us, and they need to be held account for the trauma that they have created.”
(Yes, she said “held account” instead of “held to account.” Harvard-educated, folks.)
So let’s get this straight. Donald Trump won a decisive presidential election because Americans were furious about Democrats unchecked illegal immigration. Remember Biden let 10+ million unvetted people into the country between 2021-2025. He directed federal law enforcement to enforce the laws that Congress itself passed. And now a congresswoman wants to imprison the agents who carried out those laws and pay the lawbreakers for the inconvenience of getting caught.
That’s like arresting the cop and giving the carjacker a gift card to Applebee’s.
Her colleagues at the fake hearing were equally detached from reality. Rep. Christian Menefee (D-TX) described illegal immigrants as “folks who are our neighbors” who “do the jobs that keep our city running.” They want the cheap labor but they don’t want you to notice where it comes from. Very progressive!
Here’s the cherry on this sundae of absurdity. On the very same Friday night that Jayapal held this tear-soaked performance demanding reparations, the House voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security for 60 days. Jayapal voted no.
She released a statement saying she refuses to give “Trump’s ICE or CBP another cent” because agents have been — and this is a direct quote — waging a “lawless reign of terror against American families and communities.”
A lawless reign of terror. Let that sink in.
Born in India. Became a citizen in 2000. Swore an oath to uphold the Constitution. And now she’s comparing ICE agents to Latin American death squads because they put handcuffs on people who cut the line.
Jayapal promised that “if I am chair of the immigration subcommittee, we will be pursuing all of these pieces.” Good luck with that pitch in the midterms. “Vote Democrat: We’ll Prosecute Border Agents and Pay Illegal Immigrants With Your Tax Dollars” is a bumper sticker that practically writes Republican campaign ads for free.
We’ve got a $36 trillion national debt and Americans who can barely afford groceries, and this woman wants to create a brand-new entitlement program for people who aren’t even supposed to be here. Maybe Jayapal should hold an eighth shadow hearing on why voters keep running screaming from her party. That one might actually be worth watching.
