Trump Goes Viral for DoorDash Stunt, But Delivery Driver's Response Puts Democrats to Shame

The President of the United States ordered McDonald’s to the Oval Office via DoorDash on Sunday — two days before the federal tax deadline — and handed his delivery driver a crisp $100 bill on camera. Because apparently the most powerful man on the planet still craves a Big Mac just like the rest of us, and he wanted to make a point while he ate it.

Somewhere in Washington, a Democrat staffer is furiously drafting a press release about how this is an “abuse of presidential privilege” or a “threat to democratic norms” or whatever phrase they’re recycling this week. Meanwhile, the rest of America saw a guy order a burger and tip his driver like a human being. Tough call on which side is winning hearts and minds here.

But here’s why this wasn’t just a fast food run. The driver who walked those golden arches bags up to the West Wing was Sharon Simmons — a grandmother from the D.C. area who drives DoorDash to help support her family while her husband battles cancer. She became the first person to ever deliver a meal to the White House through DoorDash, and when the cameras rolled, she didn’t talk about herself. She talked about the policy that changed her life.

Trump’s “No Tax on Tips” provision — part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — means that workers like Sharon who earn tips don’t have to fork over a chunk of their hard-earned gratuities to the IRS anymore. And Sharon told Fox Business that this one policy saved her family more than $11,000 this year alone.

Eleven. Thousand. Dollars.

That’s not a talking point on a campaign flyer. That’s a real number from a real woman who spends her days driving strangers their lunch so she can help pay for her husband’s cancer treatment. Eleven grand is the difference between making rent and not making rent. Between affording medication and choosing which prescription to skip this month. Between keeping the lights on and sitting in the dark.

And Democrats fought this policy tooth and nail.

Remember when Chuck Schumer called it a “giveaway to the wealthy”? The wealthy. We’re talking about DoorDash drivers and bartenders and waitresses pulling double shifts at Applebee’s. These are the “wealthy” that Democrats were worried about getting too much of a tax break. Sharon Simmons, cancer-fighting grandma and DoorDash warrior, is apparently the face of unchecked greed in the Democratic imagination.

The left spent months arguing that eliminating taxes on tips would “blow a hole in the deficit” — as if they’ve ever cared about the deficit for one single second of their political lives. These are the same people who shipped $175 billion to Ukraine without blinking, who added $4.8 trillion to the national debt under Biden, who wanted to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to audit waitresses. But a DoorDash grandma keeps an extra $11,000 of her own money? That’s where they draw the fiscal responsibility line.

You really cannot make this stuff up. Actually, scratch that — Bob’s voice rule says we can’t say that. So instead: this is exactly the kind of insanity we’ve come to expect from a party that has completely lost touch with working people.

What Trump did on Sunday was genius-level political theater, and we should appreciate it for what it was. He didn’t hold a press conference with a bunch of economists and PowerPoint slides about marginal tax rates. He ordered a Big Mac. He met a working grandmother at the door of the West Wing. He handed her a hundred-dollar bill. And he let HER tell the country what the policy meant in real dollars.

No consultants. No focus groups. No 47-page policy memo. Just a burger, a tip, and a woman who said “this saved my family $11,000” while Democrats scrambled to explain why that’s somehow a bad thing.

Sharon told reporters she hopes the No Tax on Tips provision gets extended past its current 2028 expiration date. And honestly? So do we. Because this is what good policy looks like — it doesn’t require a PhD to understand, it doesn’t need a government website to navigate, and it puts money directly back in the pockets of people who actually work for a living.

The contrast here is so sharp it could cut glass. On one side, you’ve got a president who orders McDonald’s, tips generously, and celebrates a policy that helps working Americans keep more of their own money. On the other side, you’ve got a political party that spent four years telling us the economy was “strong” while grocery prices doubled and gas hit five bucks a gallon — and then fought to make sure DoorDash drivers and pizza delivery guys kept paying taxes on their tips.

We know which side we’re on. And so does Sharon Simmons.

Happy Tax Day, America. At least this year, the tips are yours to keep.
