When Virginians elected Abigail Spanberger as governor, they were told she was a “moderate.” She said she would govern with balance and reason. But now, just days into her term, the truth is clear: voters were sold a lie. Spanberger and her Democrat allies in the state legislature are pushing over 1,000 bills that have nothing to do with moderation. Instead, they are turning Virginia into a radical, left-wing state with policies that threaten their safety, rights, and even their freedom.
Let’s break this down in plain terms. These new laws put criminals first and law-abiding citizens last. For example, House Bill 244 makes it easier for violent criminals to get lighter sentences. House Bill 863 reduces punishment for crimes like rape and child pornography. Yes, you read that right. They want to go easier on the worst of the worst. And House Bill 1070 says judges can’t even fully consider a criminal’s past crimes when making decisions in court.
It doesn’t stop there. The governor wants to open 350 marijuana shops across the state, even if local communities don’t want them. This is not about safe access or medical care. This is about putting profits and politics ahead of parents and public safety.
Then there’s the matter of illegal immigration. Spanberger and her allies have declared Virginia a “sanctuary state.” That means state and local police are no longer allowed to work with federal agents to catch illegal immigrants—even those who commit crimes. House Bill 912 gives public school access to illegal immigrants, and HB 553 makes sure prisons offer language programs for them too. But what about American citizens who need help? What about citizens who follow the law? They get pushed to the back of the line.
The new laws also attack parents and families. House Bill 359 makes it harder to homeschool your children or send them to private school. And House Bill 355 forces mental health screenings on students whether parents want them or not. At the same time, schools are told to teach more about “marginalized identities” instead of reading, writing, and math. This is not education. It’s indoctrination.
On top of all this, Democrats want to raise taxes. They want to tax your gym membership, your therapy sessions, your hotel stays, even your package deliveries. New bills like HB 978, HB 524, and HB 900 aim to take more of your hard-earned money so they can fund their green energy dreams and government programs. Meanwhile, HB 950 allows drone surveillance over private property. So not only are they taking your money—they’re watching you while they do it.
Gun rights? Forget it. HB 217 bans so-called “assault weapons,” a term they use to scare people and confuse the truth. HB 926 even limits how you can use your own land for target practice. And HB 969 creates a government-funded “Gun Violence Prevention Center,” which sounds nice until you realize it’s just another way for the state to meddle in your Second Amendment rights.
And what about elections? Democrats want to change the rules there, too. They want to allow ballots to be counted after Election Day. They want ranked-choice voting that confuses voters and helps Democrats. Some bills would even allow online voting, which opens the door wide for fraud.
This is what happens when people fall for the lie of the “moderate Democrat.” Abigail Spanberger said she would govern from the middle. In reality, she and her party are racing to the far Left. They’re soft on crime, easy on illegal immigration, hard on parents, and quick to raise your taxes and restrict your rights.
The people of Virginia deserve better. The people of this nation deserve leaders who follow the Constitution, respect individual liberty, and protect our communities. This is not moderation. This is a quiet revolution against everything that made Virginia—and America—strong.
