Washington's Governor Just Signed a Confession That He Broke Ethics Rules — And His Fine Was Less Than Your Grocery Bill

Washington state Governor Bob Ferguson — Democrat, obviously — just did something that politicians almost never do. He put pen to paper and formally admitted that he violated state ethics rules. A signed agreement. In writing. With his actual name on it.

Four thousand dollars. That’s the fine. You probably spent more than that on gas last year driving to a job where YOUR boss would fire you for stealing a box of paperclips. But when a sitting governor uses taxpayer money to fly his political buddy around the state? Four grand. Don’t spend it all in one place, ethics board.

Here’s what happened. Ferguson let his former “chief strategy officer” — that’s a fancy title for a political operative on the public payroll — hitch a ride on a taxpayer-funded flight with him. Your money. His buddy. Their airplane. Nice work if you can get it.

Now, we know what you’re thinking. That doesn’t sound like the biggest scandal in the world. And you’re right — by Democrat standards, this barely registers. These are the people who gave us a governor in New York who killed grandmas in nursing homes and then wrote a book about what a great job he did. Ethics violations in a blue state are like parking tickets in Manhattan — everybody’s got a few.

But here’s why this one matters: he ADMITTED it.

A sitting governor signed a document confessing that he broke the rules. That’s not alleged. That’s not “under investigation.” That’s not “sources say.” The man literally wrote his name on a piece of paper that says “I did it.”

(At least he was honest about being dishonest. Progress!)

Bob Ferguson, for those keeping score at home, is the same guy who spent years as Washington’s Attorney General suing the Trump administration over everything from immigration enforcement to environmental policy. He built his entire political brand on being the rule-of-law guy. The accountability guy. The “nobody is above the law” guy.

Except, apparently, when it comes to flying his pals around on the taxpayers’ dime. Then the rules get a little fuzzy.

This is the Democrat playbook, and we’ve seen it a thousand times. Lecture everyone else about integrity. Hold press conferences about transparency. Wag your finger at Republicans for every perceived ethical hiccup. And then, when you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar, quietly sign a settlement, pay a fine that amounts to pocket change, and hope nobody notices.

Four. Thousand. Dollars.

Let’s put that in perspective. The average household in Washington state pays over $12,000 a year in state and local taxes. So the governor can misuse your tax dollars for personal benefit and his punishment is roughly one-third of what you pay HIM every year. What a deal.

A federal employee who misuses a government vehicle can lose their job. A soldier who misuses military equipment can face court martial. But a Democrat governor who puts his buddy on a taxpayer-funded flight? Here’s a parking ticket, Governor. Try not to do it again. Wink.

And let’s not pretend this is just about one flight. Ethics violations are like cockroaches — when you see one, there are fifty more behind the wall. This is the one they caught. This is the one that made it to a signed agreement. What about the ones that didn’t?

We’ll probably never know, because the Washington state media has roughly the same interest in investigating a Democrat governor as a cat has in taking a bath. The story dropped and the local press treated it like a weather report from three towns over.

Meanwhile, if a Republican governor anywhere in America had signed an ethics confession, it would be the lead story on every network for a week. CNN would have a countdown clock. MSNBC would convene a panel of sixteen former prosecutors. The New York Times would run a twelve-part investigative series with interactive graphics.

But Bob Ferguson gets the silent treatment. Funny how that works.

Here’s the bottom line: a man who made his career lecturing the rest of us about following the rules just confessed — in writing, with a signature — that he broke them. And his punishment is less than what most Americans pay for a month of health insurance.

Rules for thee, never for me. That should be the official motto of the Washington Governor’s Mansion.

At least he signed the confession himself. Most Democrats make their lawyers do it.
